Covid-19: No new cases detected at USM hospital

PETALING JAYA: There has been no new Covid-19 cases detected at the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) health campus and hospital in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan, since Nov 30.

USM Hospital and campus director Prof Datuk Dr Ahmad Sukari Halim said the hospital has been operating as usual since Nov 29, with all its treatment and health services running like clockwork.

However, the hospital did reduce the number of patients as a precautionary measure in light of the rising number of Covid-19 cases across the nation, including the Hilir cluster that was identified in Kota Baru, Tumpat, Bachok and Pasir Puteh in Kelantan.

“No services at the USM Hospital were or have been suspended. However, the number of patients of surgical services and maternity wards have been reduced as a precautionary measure.

“The reduction of patients in November is also an annual routine because the Medical Examination for Masters is conducted in that period based on the academic calendar, ” said Dr Ahmad Sukari in a statement Monday (Dec 1).

The hospital, he said, has been proactively sanitising the premises on a regular basis and intensifying new norms campaigns to employees and customers.

“The safety and well-being of all our staff, customers, and beneficiaries are our number one priority.

“The management has taken immediate action to control the infection and strive to ensure treatment and health services are not disrupted.”

He reiterated that only the Health Ministry was authorised to issue statements about Covid-19 cases.

“The management of USM health campus and hospital is always committed to implementing all preventive and regulatory measures set by the National Security Council and Health Ministry to ensure that cases of Covid-19 infections do not affect our services, especially healthcare to citizens, ” he said.

He also said they were working with various agencies including the Kelantan Health Department to ensure standard operating procedures issued by National Security Council (NSC) are adhered to.
